Bangladesh is set to join the third submarine cable. On this occasion, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications will officially sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Thursday. C-Me-We4 and C-Me-We5 followed by the third submarine cable new C-Me-We6will be added to Bangladesh. 

This was stated by Minister of Posts and Telecommunications Mostafa Jabbar while addressing the Chief Guest at a seminar on 'SafeInternet: Challenges and Dos' initiated by the IEB's Computer Strategy Department on Wednesday (September22).  

The minister said that the third submarine cable has done everything from passing projects overall to joining the new C-Me-We6. We will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) tomorrow to start the journey of this C-Me-We6. 

Noting that the use of internet bandwidth in the country increased, the Minister said Bangladesh is exporting bandwidth besides its own use. Exporting to India. Bangladesh is now set to sign an agreement on exporting bandwidth with Nepal and Bhutan. Bangladesh is already exporting bandwidth directly to Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia is already completing all preparations and proposals to get a terabit bandwidth from Bangladesh. 

Noting that 5G will be launched in the country by 2021, the Minister said that the last decision given to us by The Hon'ble Prime Minister's Information and Communication Technology Advisor, Mahdoy, is not only a test of 5G by 2021 but also on a small scale but we will do the rollout of 5G. 

Noting that the Bangabandhu 1 satellite launched into space on May 12, 2018, has not seen any problem so far, Mostafa Jabbar said, "Our expectation satellite term was calculated to be 15 years. Now engineers say its life expectancy will increase by two to three more years. We can use it for up to 18 years. 

He said that even though the first satellite is a communication satellite, the second satellite can monitor other issues including the sea boundary, and sell information to other countries.
